Summer Planning | Hiring Prep Checklist

Many organizations know they need to hire. Far fewer are truly prepared to hire.

After ~2 years of cautious hiring, we’re seeing momentum return across both established companies and startups. Many of the organizations we partner with are using the summer to make a handful of critical hires while preparing for a much busier fall. Where does your team stand?

As hiring activity continues to build, the companies that secure the strongest talent won’t necessarily be the ones with the biggest budgets. They’ll be the ones that are ready to move. Top candidates rarely wait, and many are evaluating multiple opportunities at once.

Summer is the ideal time to align stakeholders, streamline your process, and eliminate bottlenecks before hiring needs become urgent. Use the checklist below to ensure your team is positioned to move with the speed and confidence today’s market demands.

Before launching your next search, ask yourself the following 6 questions to keep your team aligned.

1. Is the Budget Approved?

  • Has compensation been finalized?
  • Have bonus, equity, or incentive plans been determined?
  • Are all stakeholders aligned on the investment required to attract the right talent?

2. Is the Role Clearly Defined?

  • Do you have a current, realistic job description?
  • Have you identified the must-have skills versus the nice-to-haves?
  • Is there alignment on what success looks like in the first 6–12 months?

3. Is Your Hiring Process Mapped Out?

  • Who will be involved in interviews?
  • How many interview stages will there be?
  • Are decision-makers available and prepared to move quickly?

4. Is Your Candidate Experience Competitive?

  • Is your interview process respectful of candidates’ time?
  • Are you prepared to communicate consistently throughout the process?
  • Have you considered what will make your opportunity stand out in a competitive market?

5. Do You Know What’s Happening in the Talent Market?

  • Are your compensation expectations aligned with today’s market?
  • Do you know where strong candidates are coming from?
  • Have you benchmarked against competitors hiring for similar talent?

6. Have You Started Building Relationships?

  • Have you identified talent pools you’d like to pursue?
  • Are you networking with potential future hires already?
  • Do you have a recruiting partner who can introduce you to exceptional talent proactively, and help you map out a plan for all of the above?

The strongest hires rarely happen by accident. They happen when organizations are prepared, aligned, and positioned to move decisively when exceptional talent becomes available.

Whether you need help refining your hiring process, pressure-testing your plans, or expanding your reach to talent you may not find on your own, we’re here to help. If hiring is on your roadmap for the second half of the year, let’s make sure you’re ready before the competition is.
