Software Engineer (Backend)
Our client, a growing technology company, is seeking an experienced Backend / Systems Engineer with a strong security mindset. This role will focus on building reliable backend systems and APIs that securely handle sensitive data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build secure, scalable backend systems and APIs.
- Develop database architecture for sensitive data, including encryption, row-level security, audit tables, and data masking.
- Implement API security, including authentication, rate limiting, request signing, and audit logging.
- Build and maintain asynchronous systems, background jobs, and event-driven workflows, with a strong understanding of failure modes.
- Apply encryption, key rotation, and certificate management best practices.
- Develop unit, integration, and load testing to identify performance regressions.
- Support compliance requirements around logging, data retention, and PII handling.
Qualifications
- 4–6 years of backend or systems engineering experience.
- Deep proficiency in the primary programming language and technology stack used in prior roles.
- Strong experience with database architecture and security for sensitive data.
- Experience designing secure APIs and asynchronous systems.
- Working knowledge of cryptography fundamentals, encryption, key management, and certificates.
- Strong testing experience across unit, integration, and load testing.
- Understanding of compliance-oriented logging, data retention, and PII handling.
