Docket Clerk
Our client, a litigation law firm, is seeking a docket clerk to join their midtown New York City office. The Litigation Clerk will be responsible for executing calendaring workflow requests generated through the Firm’s CourtAlert system for federal and state court matters and regulatory agencies. In this role you will work closely with the Managing Clerk and Assistant Managing Clerk to ensure compliance with rules and deadlines and will be responsible with assisting with case filings and court-related services.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining the Firm’s master litigation calendar, including setting up notification processes and individual attorney calendars.
- Prepare additional calendar reports upon request
- Calculate deadlines based upon applicable rules and statutes
- Monitor cases and conduct research on litigants, as well as coordinate with outside vendors to obtain publicly filed documents
- Serve and file court papers, electronically and manually
- Collaborate with other members of the Managing Clerk’s Office to maintain the Firm’s litigation docket and calendar
- Respond to case teams regarding deadline-related questions and concerns including delivering rule interpretation and analysis
- Prepare customized docket reports as needed
- Coordinate and if necessary, perform court services functions (i.e., retrieving court documents, reviewing and filing documents and coordinating process servers)
- Monitor case progress in assigned courts, obtain decisions and orders, obtain docket updates and communicate case status change to responsible attorney(s)
- Coordinate work projects with other members of the Managing Clerk’s Office. (Docket audit, outstanding motion lists, appeal lists, business development lists, etc.)
- Provide general office support and assistance
- Other duties as may be assigned
- Maintain time entries in iTimeKeep
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- 4-6 years of experience preferred
- Proficient in industry-standard calendaring tools such as CourtAlert and CompuLaw
- Proficiency in utilizing online court databases including PACER, Bloomberg and Courtlink
- Knowledge of local, state and federal court rules, procedures and requirements and an understanding of the environment and enthusiasm for the challenges of providing complex services in a law firm setting
- Knowledge and competence in electronic filing in state and federal courts and web-based research skills
- Working knowledge of CPLR and FRCP
- General familiarity with best practices regarding docketing, calendaring and record keeping as they relate to loss prevention issues in the legal environment
- Experience performing calendaring responsibilities
- Electronic filing experience in Pacer & NYSECF preferred
Work Environment:
- Hybrid role typically 3 days in-office (Tuesdays and Wednesdays required); 2 days work-from-home
- Hours: 10 am – 6 pm
- Overtime (above 35 hours) may be frequently required based on business needs
- This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in New York, NY
- Base salary range: $72,000 – $82,000, plus medical, dental, and vision plan, generous PTO, employee assistance programs, 401k
