Director of Major Gifts
A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Director of Major Gifts to lead its individual giving strategy and grow a robust portfolio of major and planned giving donors. This leadership role will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies that deepen donor engagement, expand philanthropic support, and strengthen long-term revenue growth. The ideal candidate is a relationship-focused fundraising professional with a successful track record in major gifts, donor cultivation, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive major gifts and planned giving strategies to grow individual philanthropy and achieve annual fundraising goals
- Manage and cultivate a portfolio of approximately 70 major donor prospects through personalized stewardship, solicitation, and engagement efforts
- Lead initiatives to strengthen donor pipelines, increase annual giving, and expand legacy and planned giving programs
- Supervise and mentor team members responsible for individual giving, planned giving, and development operations while supporting their professional growth and fundraising success
- Monitor fundraising performance, analyze donor trends, and develop reports and recommendations to support strategic decision-making
- Partner with executive leadership, finance, marketing, and program teams to develop compelling donor communications, stewardship materials, impact reporting, and fundraising initiatives
- Oversee development systems and reporting processes, ensuring accurate gift processing, data integrity, and effective use of CRM and fundraising technology
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 5–7 years of progressive fundraising experience with a focus on major gifts, individual giving, or advancement
- Demonstrated success managing major donor portfolios and securing significant philanthropic gifts
- Experience developing and executing annual giving, planned giving, and donor stewardship strategies
- Strong leadership experience with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members
- Proficiency with CRM and donor management platforms, with Salesforce experience preferred
- Excellent relationship-building, communication, organizational, and project management skills
- Passion for mission-driven work and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement
Compensation & Schedule
- Salary: $115,000–$130,000 annually
- Full-time, exempt position
- Hybrid schedule with a minimum of three days onsite each week
- Flexibility required for regular evening and weekend events
