Director of HR
We are seeking a Director of Human Resources and Talent Management. We are seeking someone who is a thought leader, strong collaborator, likes to build on the ideas of others, who thinks about our employees and is passionate about talent management. We seek a leader who will create a set of solutions and experiences that enable our directors to lead effectively, create diverse and inclusive teams, develop their faculty and staff, and deliver outstanding results. The successful candidate acts as an employee champion and change agent. The role assesses and anticipates human resources related needs. Overall, the position formulates partnerships across the organization to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the strategic objectives of the organization.
The Director of Human Resources and Talent Management originates and leads human resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning:
- Lead efforts to mature an integrated, multi-year talent management strategy.
- Work closely with education directors and faculty to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Analyze trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs and policies.
Hiring & Onboarding:
- Manage all aspects of the hiring process. Develop policies to further strengthen and diversify the pool of candidates and simplify the selection process.
- Create and place advertisements, work with directors to screen and interview candidates, conduct reference checks; extend job offers, conduct new-employee orientations, monitor career-path program and employee relations counseling.
- Prepare and maintain accurate job descriptions. Apply the appropriate FLSA designation to all positions.
- Oversee the onboarding of employees and ensure a thorough and welcoming introduction to the school.
- Participate in the design and implementation of employee diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Employee Retention
- Design, develop, and execute against a customized learning and development strategy to accelerate the readiness and productivity of our faculty and leadership talent pool.
- Implement and annually update the compensation program, conduct annual salary research, analyze compensation, monitor the performance evaluation program and revise as necessary.
- Conduct exit interviews with all outgoing employees. Compile results annually for administrators.
- Oversee the school committee to foster open communication between faculty and administrators.
Performance Management
- Manage the annual review process for all faculty and staff. Provide guidance on best practices and work with supervisors to incorporate these recommendations into the current process.
- Monitoring of training programs to ensure they meet the objectives and mission of the school.
- Work closely with administrators and employees to resolve personnel issues. Document any performance issues appropriately.
- Identify training needs for departments and individual executive coaching needs.
Benefits
- Oversee all employee benefits (FMLA, PFL, FFCRA, etc.) and ensure effective and timely communication.
- Manage annual enrollment for health and dental benefits.
- Oversee pension audits and file required documents with the DOL in timely fashion.
- Educate employees on benefits options and coordinate meetings with outside professionals.
- Consult with legal counsel, as necessary, to minimize potential liability.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
- Keep abreast of potential changes in regulation. Analyze the impact on the school and proactively recommend policy changes to maintain compliance.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Serve as Compliance Offer for Whistleblower policy. Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations.
- Review employee handbook regularly and make any necessary changes.
- Plan and coordinate Anti-Harassment, Mandated Reporting, Emergency and other HR-related training.
- Maintain secure and confidential human resources-related files and records.
- Review payroll and benefits invoices for accuracy.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree in a related field required. Masters Degree preferred.
- Professional certification REQUIRED. (SHRM, HRCI)
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in a managerial role (this position supervises a Benefit Associate).
- Working knowledge of human resource principles, procedures and practices.
- Independent school experience preferred.

- Working knowledge and skill of basic business software, including word processing, spreadsheet and HRIS.
